BRIEF BIOGRAPHY

Dr Cristian C. Baeza is the Executive Director of the International Center for Health Systems Strengthening (ICHSSS) and of the Center for Healthy Development (CHD) in Washington DC, USA.
Before joining ICHSS, Dr. Baeza was a Professor of Global Health at the University of Washington in Seattle, USA, and held multiple senior positions in Global Health including Head of the Health, Nutrition and Population Practice of the World Bank globally (Director of HNP); CEO of the Chilean National Health Insurance Fund -FONASA- (Santiago, Chile); Partner leading the health systems and services practice in emerging markets in McKinsey and Company ( Rome, Italy and Washington DC, USA); Co-editor of the World Health Report 2000 on health Systems Performance at WHO headquarters (Geneva, Switzerland), leading the Health Financing Section of the report; and Director General of International Financing and Health Sector Reform at the Ministry of Health of Chile (Santiago, Chile). Dr. Baeza has worked extensively on health care financing and health systems globally advising more than 40 countries and social health insurance institutions in Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. He has also been a senior contributing member to a number of multilateral initiatives on health systems and health financing including the World Commission on Macroeconomics and Health, the Global Forum for Health Sector Reform, and the World Economic Forum. Dr. Baeza has contributed to multiple Global Health publications and Global Health initiatives including his membership of the Boards of, inter allia, GAVI, the Global Fund, the Micronutrients Initiative, the Global Alliance for Health Workers, the Partnership for Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health (PMNCH) and a number of other multilateral initiatives. He has also adviced USAID, the World Bank, the Inter American Development Bank (IDB), the International Labor Organization (ILO), the World Health Organization, and UKAID (DFID) on Universal Health Coverage, global health architecture and financing, and on health systems policy and financing. Dr. Baeza holds a Medical Doctor degree from the University of Chile, a Master of Public Health degree from Johns Hopkins University, and completed a Master in Neurosciences program from the University of Chile and a Master level program in Development and Social Policy Economics from ILADES. |
